A new study finds caffeine can help shift workers’ focus, and they can make fewer mistakes. About 15 percent of workers work evening or overnight shifts, leaving them short on sleep and at risk for car accidents and on-the-job injuries. British researchers reviewed 13 studies where shift workers were given caffeine in coffee, pills, energy drinks or food, then took a series of tests. Caffeine worked better than placebos or even naps at reducing errors and improved performance on memory, attention and reasoning tests.
